Actual Facts You Need to Know about Solar Energy and Its Usage

Actual Facts You Need to Know about Solar Energy and Its Usage

Actual Facts You Need to Know about Solar Energy and Its Usage. It will not be over emphasized and needless to say, that we all know the reduction of pollution is one of the most conspicuous benefits of solar energy and solar power plants. However, the truth is that solar energy is not only beneficial for protecting the environment but also much more than that.

Environmental Facts You Need to Know about Solar Energy and Its Usage

You don’t need to be an professional in environmental science to know about the severity of our environment and how it’s affecting our world and mother nature. Needless to say, we are all aware that reduction of pollution is one of the most noticeable advantages of solar energy.

Actual Facts You Need to Know about Solar Energy and Its Usage which you might not know are:-

  • Use of solar energy is not a new perception by any means; several primeval civilizations have also used it before. One of the first modern philosophers to perceive the idea of using solar energy for water heating was Leonardo Da-Vinci.
  • An inventor named Edmond Becquerel first acquired a patent in 1894 to build the world’s 1st solar-powered water heater.
  • Bell Laboratories first designed the first solar photo voltaic cell in 1954.
  • Frank Shuman built the world’s first thermal power station in 1913. The station was situated in Egypt, and it pumped nearly 6000 gallons of water each minute through solar energy.
  • All solar products are predominantly of two types – active and passive.
  • Active devices use photo-voltaic cells while passive ones are thermal in nature. Solar devices which are thermal based, use molten salts to hold the solar energy at very high temperature.

Widespread Use of Solar Energy and Its Usage

Several surveys have conveyed that by the year 2060, 33% of the world’s power generation will be done by solar energy using technologies like solar panels.

India is ranked 1st for installation of solar energy installed per watt  Rajasthan is considered as the topmost state in India using the highest quantity of solar energy. Stark contrast between conventional energy and solar energy exists in many states of India.

Availability of Solar Energy through Sun Everyday

Many of us may not be knowing about availability of solar energy through sun everyday and other actual facts you need to know about solar energy and its usage. Every year the earth receives 3.85 million oxyjoules of solar energy which is in stark contrast to the 56.74 oxyjoules of usage of conventional electricity. So it’s quite clear that within just a few hours, more energy is generated from the sun than what conventional resources generated in a whole year.

Solar Energy in comparison of Fossil Fuels

Actual facts you need to know about solar energy and its usage with respect to fossil fuels and its comparison.  Once compared to fossil fuels, solar energy doesn’t yield harmful carbon dioxide in our ecological environment system. Probably one of the best things about solar energy is that they can be used by everyone and everywhere. Sunlight is available in abundance in our universe 24 x 7 some part of the world remains lighted by the sun and that to free of cost every day.

Amazing capabilities of Solar Energy over other source of Energy

Wondering what solar power is capable of? You will be amazed to know some of the solar energy facts. Well, to put things into perspective, we consume nearly 467 oxyjoules of energy through conventional sources like coal, petroleum, gasoline along with green sources like wind and water. If you think it through, if we could just harness 10% of the sun’s energy, we can replace all the conventional sources and save on fossil fuels. So, it’s particularly clear how helpful solar energy is to the environment and our universe. Many countries have adopted and embraced this fact, and one of the largest examples is India. Such is the demand for this alternate energy that the solar PV module / solar panel price in India has decreased a lot over the years making it possible for people from any background to use it.

Revolutionary promotion of Solar Energy by Govt of India

The Government of India, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has set a challenging target of 40,000 MWp of Grid-Interactive Rooftop Solar PV Plants during the next five years. These rooftop solar PV plants will be set up in residential, commercial, industrial, institutional sectors in the country ranging from 1 kWp to 500 kWp capacity. Such rooftop plants have become economically viable as they produce clean electricity from the solar energy at about Rupees 7 per kWh without any subsidy. The Government is providing a subsidy of 15% on these plants to the beneficiaries, which makes solar power plant installation further attractive and viable.

Provisions of loan for Grid Connected Rooftop Solar Power Plants

This massive target can be achieved with support from banks to give loans for installation of Grid-Interactive Rooftop Solar PV Plants to the loan seekers as a part of home loan/ home improvement loan.

Government of India, Ministry of Finance has advised all Nationalized banks to encourage the home loan/ home improvement loan seekers to install rooftop solar PVs and include the cost of such equipment in their home loan proposals just like non solar lighting, wiring and other such fittings.

In compliance, so far, eight Public Sector Nationalized Banks namely Bank of India, Syndicate Bank, State Bank of India, Dena Bank, Central Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Allahabad Bank and Indian Overseas Bank have taken actions on the advisory and issued the necessary instructions for their branches accordingly.

Decentralization of Solar Subsidy for Installation of Grid Connected Rooftop Solar

The individual / person interested in installation of Grid-Interactive Rooftop Solar PV Plants and desirous to seek loan may approach these nearest Public Sector Nationalized Banks. They may also contact the State Nodal Agencies like HAREDA in Haryana, agency responsible for implementing renewable energy programs in their States and the local Solar Vendor Firms for further guidance. Rest of the details may be accessed online as given in the website.

Other Advantages of Solar Energy and its Usage

But there are other advantages that make installing solar worthwhile. Unlike thirty years back when the average solar-powered household dwellings were totally off the grid, today almost 95% of the people who install grid connected rooftop solar systems do so while remaining tied to the utility company for back up. Even if they don’t sell their energy, installing a renewable system usually locks in their utility rate per kilowatt hour for next 25 years – a good deal when you consider that electricity rates are going up anywhere from of six to eight percent a year.

Popular Myths about Solar Energy are a big hurdle in its promotion

The reason more folks aren’t getting solar panels to take care of their energy needs is that there’s a lot of misinformation out there. Why isn’t everybody installing solar panels and helping to save the earth? After all, this is the most economical energy source there is, and it never runs out as long as the sun keeps shining! The reason more people aren’t jumping on this trend is that there are some myths going around. Let’s just bust a few of them.

Myth – Getting solar panels is expensive. Because it’s so costly, you end up paying more for your energy needs.

Fact – Getting set up requires some installation costs, which are prohibitive to many people. This can be a turn off. But what people don’t realize is that in a few years, they’ll be more than paying for themselves. Without a doubt, an investment in this renewable energy source is a money saver in the long-term. It’s just a matter of paying for the installation up front.

Myth They don’t last long. You’ll be lucky to get a few years out of them.

Fact – This is totally untrue. The fact is that most will last well over 25 years if properly maintained

Myth – Your roof has to face the south for the solar panels to get the sunlight they need.

Fact – It can face anywhere and you’ll be able to meet all your energy needs just fine. However, for maximum efficiency south-facing roofs do work best. They also don’t have to be installed on your roof. There are lots of different models that you can install in other areas of your house and yard, depending on where the sun hits everything.

Myth – Maintenance will be a pain.

Fact – Because they don’t have any moving parts, you’ll hardly have to do any maintenance at all. You pretty much get them installed and that’s the last you hear from them. Whether homemade or store-bought, they are made to work without any problems.

Myth – You can only use them in a hot environment because they take the sun’s heat and turn it into electricity.

Fact – Actually, most types don’t use the heat from the sun. They take the light from the sun and use it to create electricity. These are called “photo-voltaic” and they’re the ones you usually see used on homes. They take photons from the sun and turn them into electricity. The key ingredient is silicon, which is effected by the rays of the sun. Solar panels are efficient, inexpensive and earth-friendly. As more people start to realize the benefits and low-cost of getting them installed, we’ll see many more houses with solar panels on the roof, sucking up the rays of the sun.

Solar Energy Kits For Home Power Production

Solar Energy Kits For Home Power Production

Why one should use solar energy kits for home power production. First of all we need to understand what are Solar Kits? Solar panels need to be installed when you plan to generate solar electricity at home. These panels convert solar energy into DC electricity for you to use. Though solar panels are not very expensive now-a-day but it certainly cost you as much as a few thousand rupees when purchased ready-made from a retail store. This might be a huge amount to ask of you as an initial investment for installation of grid connected / off-grid solar generation system. Today, Do It Yourself (DIY) solar kits are available in the market, both online and in retail stores. Such kits are very cheap compared to the solar panels and other balance of accessories must for installation. You can build your own solar panels with the help of such kits and spend only around Rupees 18500 for each solar module of 300 watt on the whole setup.

Solar Kit Contents

A solar kit contains all the various equipment and tools that you need to use to set up a solar power unit. Solar photo-voltaic cells are the basic components of solar panels, trapping the sun’s radiated energy in the panel and converting it into useful electrical energy. Other components include sheet glass, copper wires, plywood supports, etc. One of the most important components of the solar kit is the instruction manual. This will provide you with detailed information regarding the setup and the maintenance of the solar power unit.

Balance of System in a Solar Energy Kit

A power inverter, mounting devices, switches, fuses and grounding system are also included in solar kits. You can either set the unit up on your roof, or on flat ground in your back yard. You must ensure proper clearance for the panels to receive maximum sunlight at all times. Without exposure to sunlight, the unit cannot generate any electricity.

Operating Solar Panels

Solar panels can generate power as soon as it is set up. It contains photo-voltaic cells that activate electrons to generate a DC voltage when sunlight falls on the panels. The DC voltage is directed towards a battery where the electrical power is then stored. The battery can provide a 12-volt DC power to be used. For the normal 110-volt AC power, the battery supplies the DC power to an inverter which converts it into the required AC signal. You can now use it to run any appliance that runs on electricity. Such a solar power unit lasts for around 25 years. Imagine the amount of money you can save over this period of time.

Various Advantages of Solar Energy Kits

Hence we see that solar kits have various advantages. It is much cheaper than the ready-made solar panels, cutting the cost of installation by up to one-tenth. The equipment and the instruction manuals are very descriptive and easy to follow, making it possible for you to set up the unit yourself. By using solar energy over the course of 25 years, you can save a huge amount of money that you would have spent on your electric bills otherwise. All these points make solar kits a great choice when you consider solar power for your home.

Solar Power Plant in Sonipat Haryana

Solar Power Plant in Sonipat Haryana

Demand of Solar Power Plant in Sonipat Haryana have increased manifold due to growing awareness about renewable energy among rural masses as well as urban classes. Sonipat being District Center of Haryana state have seen many solar power plant installations in the recent past. Domestic Users as well as many Schools / Colleges and Institutions have come with idea to generate their own solar energy by means of grid tied rooftop solar power plants.

It is so very clear that we have to know basic information about solar, wind or other alternative energy systems when we wish to gain elaborate knowledge about subject Solar Power Plant in Sonipat Haryana!

Growing need of Solar Energy and Solar Power Plant in Society

Many nations, states, islands, etc. are embracing 100% alternative energy. Solar & wind have not caused the grid to collapse, and nobody is starving. Coal and Nuclear cannot compete, and the last nuclear plants that were under construction and over budget by more than 10 times, are done! Abandoned! Even the Fossil fuels also cannot compete and as always, remain a rigged game with prices spiking for no other reason than greed!

Solar Power Plant across the Globe are an Alternate to Grid Electricity

In Australia, solar & wind combined with Tesla industrial grid battery systems have prevented any further grid breakdowns despite even greater record-breaking heat than last year when fossil fuels failed completely! Existing solar technology and any future technology that is in the pipeline will make a 100% solar/wind power grid a reality.

Solar Energy Technology still in its infancy stage

Face it: even though solar and wind energy may be abundant, both are very diffused so collecting their energy in large enough quantities to supply even the existing modern electrical infrastructure is very inefficient. Not to mention prohibitively costly and just creating the necessary equipment uses massive amounts of energy and resources at literally every step of the process. There is literally no way that such a system could be built within ten or even 20 years even if we already had massively more efficient collection/storage technology available today. New innovative solar technology is to be placed in order to power all the mining and smelting activities.

Solar Energy and Solar Power Plants are real Win Win situation

It’s like running the equipment that makes power strips by plugging it into the free spots on this power strip. Let us speak of a household which owns solar and battery system last year using the current prices of PV, batteries, and everything else, might have saved about Rupees One Thousand a month for each 1 kWp solar power plant. With an assumed life span of 25 years, and playing it safe by overestimating expenses, we may realize that there was significant savings by being off-grid while providing 25 years of free electricity with one time initial investment in installation of solar panels

How much You Can Save of a Solar Power Plant

Everyone contemplating to install solar power plant in Sonipat Haryana may begin saving Rupees One Thousand a month from a solar power plant system of 1 kWp capacity. Next thing we hear is about these new tariffs and laws by Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam / Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam. Administration responsible for solar energy promotion have got to revise solar energy policy and its effective implementation.

Effective Implementation of Solar Energy

Actually speaking, we can just remove all the conventional electrical fixtures from current buildings and street grids that were created by the DISCOM Utilities with no consideration whatsoever for reliable access to solar energy to energize small scale PV residential systems. Especially when you consider that the same people promoting this fantasy of 100% solar powered societies also want to eliminate the internal combustion engine in favor of electric vehicles that will place 100% of the current transportation energy demands on solar power generation facilities.

Like most things Solar Energy will take a paradigm switch

The only way this or the “Solar Energy” can possibly work in any of our lifetimes would be by rolling back all modern transportation and manufacturing and climate control energy consumption to pre-industrial revolution levels, which no doubt is on the table in the minds of many of the people promoting solar power plant and solar energy. High speed trains can replace airlines for continental travel.

100% Solar Powered Building and Societies

100% solar powered societies are not a bad fantasy ideal as those things go, but presenting that ideal as a viable solution to current problems is like saying that we can radically minimize health care costs by simply eliminating all illness. I “look forward to being part of the process to keep moving in that direction” as well, but that is only possible when Government of India as well as state governments are going to declare their solar energy policy for better implementation.

Various types of Solar Power Plants

When we talk about solar power plants in Sonipat Haryana, we must ponder upon various types of solar energy solutions available to the users. There are mainly three type of plant categorized as per their usage.

  • Grid Connected Rooftop Solar Power Plant – Name of the solar power plant itself denotes to its nature i.e. grid tied. Since this plant solely depends upon availability of main grid hence it is also acronym as On-Grid solar power system.
  • Off-Grid Rooftop Solar Power Plant – Often named as standalone power system. An off-grid solar power plant is not connected to the main electricity grid and therefore requires battery storage. Off-grid solar power plant must be designed and configured appropriately so that it could generate enough power throughout the year and have enough battery capacity to meet the building load, even in the cloudy weather when there is less sunlight. Recurring and high cost of solar batteries and hybrid / off-grid inverters means off-grid solar power plant are much more expensive than grid connected systems. Off-grid solar power plant are normally installed in such areas where main grid is either not available or very limited. Usually needed in more remote areas like villages and hilly terrains that are far from the electricity grid. However solar battery costs are reducing rapidly, so there is now a growing market for off-grid solar solar power plant even in cities and towns.
  • Hybrid Rooftop Solar Power Plant – Conventional hybrid rooftop solar power plant is combined with on-grid solar and battery backup capacity in one system that is named as Hybrid. These kind of rooftop solar power plants are now available in various capacity and system configurations. Due to the decreasing cost of battery storage, Hybrid Rooftop Solar Power Plants that are already connected to the main electricity grid can start taking advantage of battery storage as well for providing emergency backup in case of grid failure. This means being able to store solar energy that is generated during the day and using it at night as well as at the time of grid outage. When the stored energy is consumed or exhausted, the the system would draw electricity from the main grid allowing consumers to have both advantages. Hybrid rooftop solar power plants are also able to charge the batteries during cheap off-peak hours specially during after midnight to early morning before sunrise.

Benefits of Solar Electric Power

Benefits of Solar Electric Power

It appears as if all over the place wherever you look, there’s some talk going on about Benefits of Solar Electric Power i.e. alternate energy sources. Be it fossil fuels, geothermal, wind energy, hydroelectric or solar electric power, most of the house owners, institutional sector and commercial ventures, all are on the lookout for methods to get extra benefits at a better rate. In truth, there may be such a curiosity to find greater energy choices that the solar market has raised at a fastest pace to the tunes of 80% since 2012 at entire globe. All most all nations are adopting solar energy or any other alternate energy which is renewable in nature to reduce the carbon emission for a better earth and environment. If you leave behind this aspect, every country on the globe is eager to shed off from conventional energy sources and be a power reliant country while adopting clean green energy like solar, wind and Thermal.

Wide Spread Use due to Benefits of Solar Electric Power

While considering all cos and pros of solar energy and benefits of solar electric power, perhaps one of the most essentially and generally used varieties of alternate energy is solar electrical power. It has been used for many years in international locations including USA, China, Germany, Britain, Australia and many developing and underdeveloped countries throughout the globe.  Benefits of solar electric power are so huge and vast that every house owner, schools, colleges, Institutions, societies, residential associations, commercial ventures, shops, malls, hospitals and industries are opting for its efficiency as well as enhanced asset quality to decrease their monthly energy costs – not to mention make them less reliant on area utility companies / DISCOMs.

So, Let us understand what is solar electric power?

Solar panels are devices that convert sunlight into electricity. They are called “solar” panels because most of the time, the utmost prevailing source of light available is the Sun, called Sol by astronomers. Some researchers also call them photovoltaics which mean, basically, “light-electricity.” I mean electricity generated by light (sunlight).

The Basics of Photovoltaic Cells

A solar panel is a group of solar cells. Lots of small solar cells spread over a huge area can work together to provide enough power to be useful. The more light that hits a cell, the more current it produces, so spaceship are typically designed with solar panels that can always be pointed at the Sun even as the rest of the body of the spaceship moves around. This is how we can understand the working of solar panels or how solar panel works.  Most Common type of Solar Cells are

  1. Monocrystalline SolarPanels (Mono-SI)
  2. Polycrystalline SolarPanels (Poly-SI)
  3. Thin-Film SolarCells (TFSC)
  4. Amorphous Silicon SolarCell (A-Si)
  5. Biohybrid Solar

Common types of Solar Panels

  1. Traditional types of solar panels are made of mono-crystalline silicon.
  2. Whereas poly-crystalline are most commonly used around the globe.

Types of solar energy model / Solar Energy Projects

Types of solar energy model / Solar Energy Projects – There are three types of solar energy model / Solar Energy Projects, which can be installed at any house, dwelling, shops, malls, institutions, residential society or industrial establishments.

  1. Grid Connected or On-Grid.  This type of solar energy model / Solar Energy Projects / Grid Rooftop solar power Plant can be installed at places where grid is available for almost 24 hours and solar power plant is connected with the utility grid.  The electricity produced is provided to the premises load and extra if any is fed in to the grid. A grid connected solar power system includes solar panels, inverters with no backup battery. Eligible for 30% MNRE Solar Subsidy. This is the best type of solar energy model / Solar Energy Projects / solar power system for home, shops, offices, institutions and industries to combat with huge monthly electric bills.
  2. Off-grid Rooftop solar power Plant. This type of solar energy model / Solar Energy Projects / off-grid solar power plant can be installed in such areas where grid is either not available for a limited period only.  This kind of solar energy model / solar energy project is often termed as the stand alone power system for areas where infrastructure has the ability to generate the electricity without being connected to the grid. It includes solar panels, inverters and batteries which can act as a backup during emergency time. No subsidy available. Rural areas / villages where grid is almost not available may certainly use this type of solar energy model / Solar Energy Projects to power their homes in case of frequent grid failures.
  3. Hybrid Rooftop solar power Plant. This type of solar energy model / Solar Energy Projects / Hybrid solar power plant can be installed in such areas where gird is available from 18 to 20 hours however user also needs power back up for 4 to 6 hours along with benefits of net metering to reduce monthly electrical bill.  It is a combination of on-grid as well as the off- grid system. Hybrid solar power system may be slightly higher then off-grid system because of high cost of hybrid solar inverters. Eligible for 30% MNRE Solar Subsidy. This type of solar energy model / Solar Energy Project is the best bet for Semi-Urban users of domestic, institutional, NGOs and industry sector who are in need of 24 hours electricity along with net metering benefits to reduce their electric bills to the tunes of almost 70 to 80%.

Disadvantages of solar energy over Benefits of Solar Electric Power

Though, in my opinion there are no disadvantages of solar energy over benefits of solar electric power, however, few people consider these points as negative in respect of solar energy.

  • Initial investments of purchasing a solar system is quite high, however, in view of long term accrue and benefits, it is still advisable to go for solar.
  • Solar generation is closely associated with availability of sunlight. Hence we can say that solar energy is weather dependent. Although solar PV Modules can still generate electricity even during cloudy and rainy days, however, the efficiency of the solar system would certainly decrease. Researcher claim that during cloudy weather solar panels may still perform up to 25% of its capacity.
  • In case of Off-Grid / Hybrid system where battery storage is installed in the solar power plants / solar models / solar projects, the installation cost of such plants increase manifolds due to high cost of solar batteries / storage. Hence one may acronym Solar Electric Power to be expensive.
  • Normally domestic / residential user utilize their rooftops for outdoor activities, however, installation of solar power plants / solar models / solar projects would certainly involve use of lot of space thus leaving less space for other activities.
  • Manufacturing of Photovoltaic Solar modules are closely associated with environmental pollution which is unavoidable.

9 Primary Reasons to Swap to Benefits of Solar Electric Power

  1. While considering Benefits of Solar Electric Power, you might be contemplating to swap from conventional electricity to solar electric power, then listed here are some valid reasons for you to achieve this.
  2. Among the top benefits of solar electric power, I might say that it is becoming number one industry to provide jobs. Solar electrical energy, opposite to what some would possibly suppose, it really helps create jobs. In truth, the business creates as much as three time extra jobs than the coal or conventional type of fuel industry.
  3. Self-reliance / Independence from the DISCOM / power companies. Once you have installed hybrid / off grid rooftop solar power plant at your premises, you are no more dependent upon the main grid. You could use your own electricity generated by the solar electric power system even in case of grid failure.  So, if you have solar panels put in your roof, you mainly have constant supply of electricity during day time as well as night by using storage hence you are no more depending upon power generation and distribution companies.
  4. Since you are not dependent on the power company, and you can count on the sun to rise and set each day, then you can be sure to always have an energy source. Consider this, 3,000 Terawatts of solar energy shine down on the Earth’s surface every day, which is 10,000 times the daily global energy use.
  5. While the preliminary funding for solar electric power could be a bit expensive, in the long term it will possibly prevent Thousands of Indian Rupees. According to a research, it was discovered that owners who swapped to solar electric power while installing a 5 to 7 kWp solar power plant, such households had saved greater than Rupees 5 to 7 Thousands monthly.
  6. Solar energy does not require fuel combustion nor do you need to be concerned about gaseous emissions, thus minimizing your family’s carbon footprint.
  7. Because solar panels are installed on the rooftop, you are not losing any real estate in your yard or trying to figure out where in your home they can be placed.
  8. Solar panels / solar PV module generally carry 25 years performance / linear guaranty / warranty. That means for first 10 years these solar electric power plants are guaranteed for solar generation up to 90% of its capacity and 80% for the remaining 15 years.  Hence, in other words we may state that these solar modules are not going to stop working after end of 25 years, rather might work for 40 to 70 years also despite degradation.
  9. Government of India, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy via State Nodal Agencies like Haryana (HAREDA) in Haryana provides lot of solar generation incentives including solar subsidy and net metering facilities. Two type of solar electric power programs which are being promoted by Govt of Haryana as well as MNRE, Government of India may be broadly categorized as Off-grid and On-grid segment.
    1. Benefits of Off-Grid Solar Electric Power Plants – The Solar module converts the Sunlight into DC electricity in day time and this generated DC electricity is stored into a battery bank. Thereafter, the stored DC electricity converted into AC electricity by Inverter / Power Conditioning Unit is used for providing electricity to your house load. Haryana Government’s Manohar Jyoti Domestic Solar Energy Light Scheme offers a battery of 120AH with 150W Solar Panel. This can light up to three LED lights and a USB port and a DC fan.  Price of this device has been kept at Rupees Twenty Three thousand Four Hundred Seventy Seven (Rs.23,477). The financial assistance of Rupees Fifteen thousand has been fixed by the state government on a device, which will be given to the interested beneficiaries in Rupees 8477 at subsidized price.
    2. Benefits of On-Grid / Hybrid Solar Electric Power Plants – Solar Photovoltaic Technology converts the sunlight into DC electricity through solar cells. The generated DC is further converted in to AC electricity by the On-Grid / Hybrid Inverter which provides the AC electricity directly to your house load and excess if any is fed in to the Grid via Net meter. This type of Solar Electric Power Plants system is eligible for 30% MNRE Solar Subsidy.
