Grid Connected Rooftop Solar power Plant

Grid Connected Rooftop Solar power Plant Installation is the new found technology to reduce electric bills up to 90% for next 25 years minimum.  Government of India, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) through Jawahar Lal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) provides solar subsidy and other incentives to motivate people to go green go solar.

Solar power is by far the Earth’s most available energy supply, simply able to offering many times the total current energy demand.  It is sufficient to supply all of the world’s electricity, by installing solar panels covering 4% of the world’s desert area.

Solar power is a predictably intermittent energy source, meaning that whilst solar power is not available at all times, we can find out with high proficiency and accuracy when it will and wont be available.

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. Sunlight may be transformed instantly directly into electricity utilising photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly with concentrating solar power (CSP), which normally focuses the solar’s energy to boil water. Photovoltaics have been initially used to power small and medium-sized functions, from the calculator powered by a single solar cell to off-grid houses powered by a photovoltaic array.

The solely vital downside with solar power is upfront installation cost, though solar installation price has been lowering as a result of manufacturing at large scale as well as awareness. Developing international countries have began to construct solar power plants, changing other sources of energy technology.

Since solar power is intermittent, it should be mixed both with storage or other energy sources to provide steady power, though for residential users, institutions and industries, provision of net metering makes this clear to the patron.

One elementary distinction between renewable energy and non-renewable energy is that non-renewable assets may be bought as they’re consumed, whereas with renewable assets, you pay upfront cost for the subsequent twenty five years or so of energy.

What is a Grid Connected Rooftop Solar power Plant?

In Grid Connected Rooftop Solar power Plant, the DC power produced from Solar photovoltaic panel is transformed in to AC power using Solar Inverter / Power Conditioning Unit (PCU) / (String Inverter and it is provided to the load of the user.  Excess power if any, is fed to the main Grid of 220kv / 66kv/ 33kV/ 11kV three phase lines or of 440/ 220Volt three/ single phase line depending on the capacity of the system installed at residence / schools / colleges / institution/ commercial establishment or residential complex. These Grid Connected Rooftop Solar Power Plant (SPV) systems produce electricity during the day time which is consumed fully by powering captives loads and feed excess power to the grid as long as grid is available. In case, where solar power is not sufficient due to cloud cover etc. the captive loads are powered by drawing power from the main grid.

What is difference between on-grid and off-grid solar system

Before we get into depth about “what is difference between on-grid and off-grid solar system”, we must first understand how does Solar panels work?

How does Solar Panels Work?

Solar Panels, solar modules or solar photo-voltaic PV modules actually work by absorbing sunlight with photo-voltaic cells, generating direct current (DC) electricity and then converting it to usable alternating current (AC) electricity with the help of smart solar inverter technology. AC energy or electricity then flows through the home’s electrical panel via Array Junction Box (AJB) and Distribution Junction Box (DJB) for further distribution to the load accordingly.

Solar energy or solar power is perhaps the cleanest, most reliable form of renewable energy available to the mankind, and it can be used in several forms to help power your home or business. Solar-powered photo-voltaic (PV) panels convert the sunlight into electricity by stimulating electrons in silicon cells using the photons of light from the sun.

What is the difference between On-grid and off-grid solar power

Now it is easier to understand “What is the difference between On-grid and off-grid solar power?” On-grid solar power means your solar power plant or solar panels system is tied to your local utility company’s system which is called as “grid” or “mains electricity”. Each and every state in India has its own Electricity Distribution Corporations / Companies like state of Haryana has Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam (UHBVN) and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam (DHBVN). Most of the residence / Institutional / NGOs / NPOs / Industries use Grid Connected Rooftop Solar Power Plant System so that their load runs on solar throughout day time while extra units / electricity produced by the system is fed in the grid through Bi-Directional Net Meter. Extra Units or electricity fed in the day time can be utilized by the user during night through Bi-Directional Net Meter. This system is helpful to curtail your electricity bills up to 90% for almost 25 years. Let us understand this by a simple example of 5 kWp Grid Connected solar power plant installed at a User’s rooftop is expected to produce 4-5 units per kilowatt per day. Thus a 5 kWp solar plant will produce at least 20 units per day. So in this example, user’s consumption may be 10 units during day time and similar amount of units at night. So, after providing 10 units to the user’s load, remaining 10 units are fed in the Grid during day time and same is received back during night time. At the end, we can summarize that user had produced his own 20 units by the solar system and utilized his whole 20 units (10 during and 10 at night) by the help of On-Grid Inverter and Bidirectional Net Meter. We may note here, that On-Grid system requires availability of Mains electricity to enable feeding in excess units in the Grid. In case of Grid failure, On-Grid solar power plant would also stop working due to International Safety and Security measures for Grid workforce. So we can say, on-grid solar power plant is installed in such areas where grid availability is almost 24 hours to enable excess generation to be fed in the grid.

On-Grid v/s Off-Grid

Now we can define that On-Grid Systems are solar pv systems that only generate power when the utility power grid is available. They must connect to the grid to function. They can send excess power generated back to the grid when you are overproducing so you credit it for later use. On-Grid solar system can be installed in most of the Metropolitan Cities, Urban and Sub-Urban cities of India where grid availability is almost 24 hours.

Grid tied Solar PV systems consist of solar panels, Solar String inverter. These systems do not utilize batteries since Grid is used as storage of excess electricity produced by the system. The solar panels generate electricity from sunlight and feed it to the solar string inverter which converts the DC voltage coming from the solar panels directly into AC power to match the grid.

When daylight sun-rays fall on solar panels they produce Direct Current (DC) electricity which is converted into 240 V AC power by solar string inverters to power up your load, excess power, if any is fed in the grid by help of two-way energy meter (bidirectional net meter). Some electricity companies will meter the electricity fed into the grid by your solar power plant system and provide a credit on your bill in the form of Solar Generation Incentives. Accumulated credited units can be consumed by the user within one financial year to avoid lapse.

A grid-connected photo-voltaic power system or grid-connected PV power system is electricity generating solar PV power system that is connected to the utility grid. A grid-connected PV system consists of solar panels, String Solar inverters, and grid Bidirectional Net Meters for connection with the Grid or main electricity.

On the other hand, off- grid solar power plant system is a system designed to help people’s own electrical system function without the support of remote infrastructure, such as an electrical grid. In electricity, off-grid solar power plant system can work as stand-alone power system or mini-grid typically to provide a electricity to users or smaller community who either do not have access or have very limited access to the main grid with electricity like most of the rural areas in India.

Off-grid solar power plant systems can refer to living in a self-sufficient manner without relying upon local electricity distribution companies DISCOM Utility. Off-grid rooftop solar power plants are autonomous; they do not rely on electrical power grid, or similar utility services.

On-grid inverters collect DC power from solar panels, convert it into AC, and send it into the load as well as into grid for credit / later use. On-Grid solar power plants are simple and easier to install since there are only two main components i.e. string inverter and solar panels. On the other hand an off-grid inverter needs a battery bank to function.

Off-Grid solar power plant is sufficient to power your house with a solar energy system. House hold appliances and lights that use AC (alternating current) electricity will require an inverter to do the job conversion from DC to AC.

One kilowatt off-grid solar plant may help you to cut your electric bill up to Rupees 800 to 900 per month for 300 clear sunny days in India. One kilowatt (1000 Watt) off-grid solar power plant is sufficient enough to power up / charge your 02 batteries of 12 Volt 150 Ah. Installation of One kilowatt Solar Power plant would require 110 Square Foot (11 Square meters) shadow free empty roof space. Off-Grid solar power plant of any capacity may be installed without permission from any Government machinery. This plant is comprised of Solar Panels, Mounting Structure, Connectors, DC Wire, Solar Charge Controllers, Solar Batteries and Inverters along with other BOS (Balance of System). Off-Grid solar system normally carries standard individual guaranties / warranties of various products / components.

Calculate Load before Your Purchase a Solar Power System

Everybody want to understand the fact that how many solar panels are needed to power an average house or how do I calculate solar panels for my home.  Once you have got know-how basics of Solar Power System, it is now very easy to calculate your load and assess your solar power system requirement for your dwellings, shops, malls, institutions or industry.  A solar power system equivalent to your Sanctioned Load (SL) may be installed with prior permission from State Nodal Agency like HAREDA in Haryana.  You may also find your daily usage of units being consumed from your electric bill.  Simply divide total units by 30 / 60 days as per your billing cycle to come on to the criterion of daily unit consumption.  1 kilowatt solar power system may produce minimum 4 units to 5 units per day.  This would now become very easy for you to decide the size of your solar power system.

Know Renewable Energy Sources before You Purchase A Solar Power System

Notable among the solutions currently on offer are those that derive energy either directly or indirectly from the sun. These systems are of three main types: photo-voltaic systems, wind systems and micro hydro systems. Photo-voltaic systems use solar panels to convert sunlight directly into electricity, while wind and micro hydro systems use turbines and generators to convert the energy in moving air and water (extremely driven by the sun) into electricity. In general, photo-voltaic systems are the most useful, adaptable and flexible renewable energy systems currently available today, and can be installed in almost any location with good results.

Consider Essential Questions before you purchase a Solar Power System

While photo-voltaic energy systems are proven equipment which has been around for decades, they are not yet well understood by the common public. There are a range of essential questions which must be considered before you purchase a Solar Power System, because even with subsidies and rebates such systems entail a substantial investment.

The first question is quite simple: how much energy is the system required to supply? The design of any solar power system must begin with a detailed and thorough audit of energy requirements. During the energy auditing process, it is important to identify area, load and of course the total investment. Before You Purchase A Solar Power System

  1. Grid Connected Solar Power System for people lives in urban areas like District Cities or Metropolitan Cities etc. Following the energy audit, the next question is what types of photo-voltaic system best suits for your requirements? For anyone in an urban environment, grid-connected On-Grid / Hybrid solar power systems which feed energy directly into the power grid probably make the most sense. These systems are becoming increasingly common as more power utility companies embrace the technology and are updating their metering and accounting systems to accommodate them. Grid connected systems work on a simple principle: when your photo-voltaic system produces more power than you need, the excess is fed into the grid and your meter in effect runs “backwards”, creating a credit for your electricity account. At those times when your energy demands exceed your supply, extra power is drawn from the grid. At the end of each billing period, energy generated and energy consumed are reconciled and you either pay for the energy you have used or receive solar generation incentive for the energy you have supplied
  2. Off-Grid System for those living in more remote locations like villages or small towns, where access to the public electricity grid may be either non-existent due to frequent power failures, limited grid availability or too much expensive energy. In this case, a standard Off-Grid Solar Power System with Solar Power Plant, Solar Inverter, charge Controller, Solar Batteries will be required. Such systems are different from grid-connected systems in that they must reliably supply all electrical energy requirements as there is no grid or limited grid to fall back on. Off-Grid systems also involve a greater investment because, unlike grid-connected systems, they require a battery bank and solar charge controller (regulator) for energy storage.

To summarize, 10 Tips are provided here before you purchase a solar power system

  1. Seek Recommendations from Friends / Relatives who have already got their solar power plants installed and running successfully or at least they know a solar power system integrator / developer who is registered as a Company with Government to ensure quality, reasonable rates and After Sales Service. Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in India through State Nodal Agencies (SNA) and District Authorities (ADC as Chief Project Officer) have been disbursing 30% project cost in the form of Solar Subsidy other than Solar Generation Incentives and Net metering facilities to reduce their electric bill to Zero for next 25 years and so on.

Though Commercial users are not eligible for Government Solar Subsidy however, Commercial users and Industrial sectors are also benefited by installing solar power plants at their ventures to avail 40% Accelerated Depreciation of Tax, Net Metering facilities and Solar Generation Incentives to reduce their bill up to 90% for next 25 years.

Solar panel system generates electricity from sunlight through its cells.  Solar Subsidy to install solar panels is an idea from Central Government and State Governments that helps to subsidize the price of installing panels. This makes it more affordable for all stream of people whether they are rich or middle class. There are various other rebates around the world, and they are different in each state and country. However, most countries now simply have a feed-in-tariff scheme which subsidizes the price of installing a solar system.

As solar subsidy offers financial support to Institutions, households and community groups, so they can produce solar power on their own by installing small-scale electricity systems. Net Metering by DISCOM Utility ensures that users electrical bills are reduced almost to 90% for next 25 years by means of Power Purchase Agreement between User and DISCOM Utility.

The latest Net metering scheme is now very beneficial; save thousands off a grid connected solar system. Businesses, homeowners and community groups are eligible for this rebate program. There are a number of rebates available for solar system that includes GCRT (Grid Connected Rooftop Solar scheme) and Net Metering. In Net metering scheme, the extra power that you don’t use during day time is fed into the grid which equates the electricity you consume during night when solar is off. Unused and accumulated electricity units produced by a solar power system may be utilized by the user within one financial year. Feed-in-tariff depends on the energy provider and the state.

You can literally save many Rupees on grid connected and off grid solar panels if you Install Solar Panels With Solar Subsidy,  solar panel rebates or grants. The latest solar rebate scheme means that when you Install Solar Panels With Solar Subsidy and produce solar power is a not only significantly viable investment but also a clean green electricity idea for the future generations. • Solar battery chargers are additionally present in torches that work with a further charging mechanism like a kinetic charging system.

How Solar Powered Battery Chargers Work and it s principle

  • Solar powered battery chargers often work with the assistance of smart and intelligent new modern charge controllers. Here, a sequence of solar cell array plates are individually put in on a roof prime, and are collectively linked to a battery.
  • These chargers should not solely used for recharging functions, however can be linked to the mains provide chargers to assist save on energy charges throughout the day. Now you perceive the arrangement of a solar battery charger, you’ll undoubtedly surprise how these solar chargers really work at producing electricity from sunlight.
  • Basically, free electrons that carry unfavorable charges create motion in present. These free electrons are entangled in an orbit surrounding the atom nucleus manufactured from protons and neutrons. This is the basic facet that happens within the atoms of everything within the universe.
  • Silicon is the fabric utilized in solar cells. In solar panels, these electrons are knocked unfastened from its orbit by the energy present in photons from sunlight. This photon’s expertise in disentangling electrons from its orbit is named photoelectric impact.

How Solar Powered Battery Chargers Work  with Solar Charge Controllers

Anytime you employ a panel that’s over 5 watts rated output, we suggest utilizing a solar charge controller. Actually, a charge controller is a good suggestion in a majority of purposes, as it might probably provide a number of advantages corresponding to stopping overcharge, bettering charge high quality, and stopping battery discharge in low or no-light circumstances. Some solar panels are made with blocking diodes pre-installed that stop battery discharge throughout low or no-light circumstances. In most instances the place a 6-watt or bigger solar panel is put in, using a charger controller is very beneficial. In a nutshell, a solar charge controller acts like an on and off change, permitting power to go when the battery wants it and slicing it off when the battery is totally charged. Something to pay attention to when choosing a controller is that they’re usually rated in amps, whereas photo-voltaic panels are usually rated in watts.

How Solar Powered Battery Chargers Work with 12 VDC battery

Most solar chargers are designed for 12 VDC; however we do have restricted availability on a 24-volt panel. Typically, when 24 volts or larger is required, solar panels could also be wired in sequence i.e. series or parallel, or we are able to particular order solar panels which are made to send extra DC Volts corresponding to 24, 36, 48 Volt system and so forth.

Positive and Negative aspects of How Solar Powered Battery Chargers Work

By including layers like Boron and Phosphorus, an imbalance is created between the positively and negatively charged particles in silicon, which in flip helps creates subject. The electrons are pushed in the direction of the entrance of the solar cell to create a negatively charged aspect whereas the protons are left behind on the other aspect of the cell to create a optimistic charge.

These two sides are then linked to an exterior load just like the terminals of a solar battery charger to create electricity. As a single solar cell can solely produce about one or two watts of energy, a number of cells are mixed in a solar charger to provide enough energy to charge a battery.

Solar chargers can charge lead acid or Ni-Cd battery banks as much as 48 V and tons of of ampere-hours (as much as 4000 Ah) capability. Such sort of solar charger setups typically use smart and intelligent new modern charge controller. A sequence of solar cells are put in in a stationary location (ie: rooftops of houses, base-station places on the bottom and so forth.) and will be linked to a battery to retailer energy for off-peak utilization. They can be used along with mains-supply chargers for energy saving throughout the daytime. Most transportable chargers can receive energy from the solar solely. Some, together with the Kinesis K3, and GeNNex Solar Cell 2 can work both approach (recharged by the solar or plugged right into a wall plug to charge up).

How Solar Powered Battery Charger Works for Mobile Phones

  • The Solar Module in your solar bag will modify sunlight to energy when uncovered to the solar. This occurs via a so-called photo-voltaic process.
  • Energy is finest harvested in brilliant sunlight, however the know-how in our solar panels additionally permits for charging beneath cloudy circumstances and occasional shade that the module could also be in.
  • A battery, specifically designed for solar functions, will store your generated sunlight as electricity inside your bag or subsequent to your solar kit.
  • It is important to store your reworked sunlight in a particular battery earlier than you employ it in your telephone or pill, as it’s safer in your system and extra enjoyable so that you can use.
  • The battery will filter any energy peaks or lows coming from the solar panel in altering circumstances. Also, it is going to act as a buffer for energy, ensuring your gadgets get all of the energy they want in a single charge and at precisely the voltage they want. Some of our batteries even depend your energy manufacturing and offers you a suggestions in your production.
  • Phones can solely settle for charge as much as a most charge of zero.5A@5V. This implies that over round 2.5W a bigger panel won’t charge your telephone sooner in brilliant sunlight. However, in poor light circumstances a bigger panel will proceed to generate enough power when a much less highly effective panel won’t.
  • Some telephones will solely settle for power over a sure charge – in other phrases you may’t trickle charge them with a really low present. Nokia telephones, for instance, want not less than 120mAh earlier than they may start to charge.

The Emerging Technology of Solar Power

The Emerging Technology of Solar Power

Presently, the best quality solar panels can perform at peak efficiency of about 15 to 17%. This is due to the fact that our current solar technology does not allow the solar panels to use all available wavelengths of light. For example, in a ray of sunlight, there are many different wavelengths IV curves. Many of these we can’t even see with our naked eye. The same goes for solar panels.

Sunfuel Technologies LLP, an Indian based solar panel manufacturing company, has been utilizing “PERC” solar cell that can multiply the wavelengths of light to produce much more solar power even on a smaller solar generating system. While Sunfuel is keeping a tight hold on the technology that allows this advanced solar energy, they predict their new panels will produce more solar power than any other brand available in India as per the size of solar power plant and ideal sunlight conditions. A 5 kWp Grid Connected Rooftop Solar Power Plant with Sunfuel Solar Panels may equate to an electric bill of around Rupees 5 to 6 thousand per month for an average house hold by producing 20-25 units a day! This beats what most Indians pay now- well over Rupees 10 to 12 Thousand a month for electricity. Better yet, Sunfuel’s new panels convert a whopping 17% of sunlight to usable solar energy! This equates the industry standard and so-called top brands of India.

The University at Tel Aviv is also making enormous developments in solar panel technology. Scientists there have scrapped the idea of using semiconductors within their solar cells. Instead, they have genetically engineered “proteins using photosynthesis for production of electrical energy”. Commercial manufacturing of such a methodology is several years down the lane, but these panels would cost much less than the conservative silicone and could produce efficiency around 25%. This makes these solar panels very attractive to third world poorer countries that want to go solar but cannot afford conventional silicone solar panels.

Another promising technological progression is the upsurge in efficiency of thin-film solar panels. These thin film panels use 40% less silicone than conservative poly-crystalline solar panels, and are much less expensive. Unfortunately, they also have less efficiency. By the end of 2018, some scientists are estimating they will be able to produce thin film solar cells with more efficiency. This makes then more comparable to conventional solar panels. Also, more people will be able to buy these less inexpensive panels.

Further progress in solar panel technology is in the battery systems which you can use alongside your solar panels. Every year, new batteries are coming up in the market that last longer and store more energy than ever before. This increases the environmental friendliness of solar technology so that solar batteries don’t have to be thrown out or recycled as often.

Solar energy may seem expensive at first instance being upfront cost, but the long-term benefits are priceless. Where else can you get 25 years of reliable energy constantly and consistently which might cost very cheaper than the electricity provided by your DISCOM utility? Certainly you may not get such reduced tariff from your DISCOM utility company. Solar energy is reliable, has zero carbon emissions and easily pays for itself within 4-5 years of purchasing as Return of Investment (ROI). For the future of the world’s electric supply, residential solar power systems may be the best answer to a limitless resource: the Sun.
