Rooftop Solar Panel System

Rooftop Solar Panel System (a.k.a. Solar roof mounts) best known as solar panel systems mounted on the roof are by far the most popular, reliable and viable solar energy solution to get rid-off from high electricity bills.

Installation of rooftop Solar Panels or Solar PV Modules normally carry 25 years performance warranty along with solar subsidies, solar rebates, tax rebates and solar generation incentives.  Grid connected rooftop solar panel system is highly backed by most of the Governments around the globe and are backed by great rebates with 25 year linear warranties.

Primary Requirement of Rooftop Solar Panel System

Even before you contemplate to install rooftop solar panel system, you have to understand the importance and type of your rooftop.  First and foremost requirement is to have a shadow-free rooftop. Secondly, there has to be space available as per size of solar power plant. Since you understand how important is your roof, you would certainly like to have full scoop on what a rooftop solar panel system means for you in relation to kind of roof, type of roof and availability of roof etc. A few common and most frequently asked Questions and Answers would be the best bet to start with and get started to Go Solar and Go Green.

What type of roof is suitable for Rooftop Solar Panel System?

While in your quest to understand the basic requirements for installation of Rooftop Solar Panel System, you need to at least have two major criteria your roof must meet.    Firstly it has to be strong enough to endure the weight of mounting structures and solar panels along with any RCC work like grouting etc. Secondly, the direction of house and its access to sun rays during day time.  A roof facing either north or south in India will prove better if it has no neighboring high raise towards east and west to avoid any kind of shadow during availability of sun light.  Normally, in all almost all part of India, the solar panels are mounted facing south while tilting at 28 degree to harness the sun to optimum utilization.

Durability of roof for installation of Rooftop Solar Panel System

You need to make sure that your roof will be strong enough to outlast your solar roof mount at least 30 plus years. If your roof isn’t able to sustain the weight of mounting structure and solar PV modules or it is not in great shape, now is the time for maintenance or to replace or repair. Before you install Rooftop Solar Panel System, it would be a wise step to consult a professional solar consultant for inspection of your roof so as to decide whether your rooftop needs to be repaired or fully replaced.  The Solar professional may further assess to find out whether your roof will be able to sustain at least 30+ years and endure the additional weight of the mounting structure and solar panels.

Types of roof best for installation of Rooftop Solar Panel System

Frankly speaking, all almost all roof type are fit to go green and go solar.  Solar installation and EPC companies have been able to successfully install Rooftop Solar Panel System on metal, asphalt, tile, slate, and gravel roofs. It would not be wise to actually generalize roof types because of its variance by individual situation, house type, structure height, weather, and seismic factors.

Available options and Varieties of Rooftop Solar Panel System

Fundamentally we can separate them in to two primary categories: ballasted and penetrating. Ballasted panels, which are especially worthy for flat roofs, are held down by weights to your roof. In this way, they affect minimal interruption to the roof. Penetrating type of solar panel systems are intended for your roof to make them suitable for all kind of weather conditions since seismic conditions demand more sturdiness and stability. Penetrating type of solar panels may adversely affect your rooftop warranty; ballasted mostly will not. A thorough solar professional or solar consultant can briefly tell you about the pros and cons of each for your kind of rooftop situation.

How much roof space will a solar panel system take?

The size of Rooftop Solar Panel System depends to a great extent on your usage of solar energy.  How many kilowatts of solar energy you intend to generate every day and how much space is actually available for mounting solar panels? Normally 1 kWp Rooftop Solar Panel System would need at least 110 square feet of empty roof space.  An average household may need Rooftop Solar Panel System anywhere between 4 to 7 kWp which would go to occupy generally between 400-700 square feet of your rooftop. Though there exists no problems with solar panels on roofs, however, it may occupy most part of your roof leaving any space for use scarcely.

Government Subsidies for solar panels in domestic homes in India

Residential / domestic users are eligible for government subsidies to the tunes of Rupees Twenty Thousand per kilowatt or 30% of benchmark cost, whichever is less. Indian Govt solar energy scheme best known as Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission is effectively implemented by Government of India MNRE.

How many solar panels to power a house; a question everyone asks

Reply rely on what load you want to run? How many units you want to generate from your rooftop solar panel system? How much money you want to save from your rooftop solar panel system?  So, first of all we must understand what is the basic purpose of installation of rooftop solar panel system? Whether we need an on-grid system or an off-grid one?

  • Off-Grid Solar – Normally an off-grid rooftop solar panel system is installed at such places where the main grid power is either not available or very limited.  Hence you need power backup.  An off-grid system comprised off solar panels, charge controller, inverter and batteries would be the best bet to go along to power up your load.
  • On-Grid Solar – In other scenario, an on-grid rooftop solar panel system will be installed in such areas where main grid supply is available for almost 24 hours however, you may like to cut your electrical bill up to 90% for next 25 years. The on-grid system would not need any battery since you will use the Grid as storage.  A small house may need 1 to 2 kilowatt, medium one may choose a solar plant between 3 to 5 kilowatt whereas a 10 kilowatt system is best option for big houses where you want to save Rs.10,000 per month.

How much do solar panels save?

Grid Connected Rooftop Solar power Plant

Grid Connected Rooftop Solar power Plant Installation is the new found technology to reduce electric bills up to 90% for next 25 years minimum.  Government of India, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) through Jawahar Lal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) provides solar subsidy and other incentives to motivate people to go green go solar.

Solar power is by far the Earth’s most available energy supply, simply able to offering many times the total current energy demand.  It is sufficient to supply all of the world’s electricity, by installing solar panels covering 4% of the world’s desert area.

Solar power is a predictably intermittent energy source, meaning that whilst solar power is not available at all times, we can find out with high proficiency and accuracy when it will and wont be available.

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. Sunlight may be transformed instantly directly into electricity utilizing photo-voltaic (PV), or indirectly with concentrating solar power (CSP), which normally focuses the solar’s energy to boil water. Photo-voltaic have been initially used to power small and medium-sized functions, from the calculator powered by a single solar cell to off-grid houses powered by a photo-voltaic array.

The solely vital downside with solar power is upfront installation cost, though solar installation price has been lowering as a result of manufacturing at large scale as well as awareness. Developing international countries have began to construct solar power plants, changing other sources of energy technology.

Since solar power is intermittent, it should be mixed both with storage or other energy sources to provide steady power, though for residential users, institutions and industries, provision of net metering makes this clear to the patron.

One elementary distinction between renewable energy and non-renewable energy is that non-renewable assets may be bought as they’re consumed, whereas with renewable assets, you pay upfront cost for the subsequent twenty five years or so of energy.
